Indian Government Blocks 18 OTT Platforms for Obscene Content
- The Indian Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) has taken action against 18 OTT platforms by blocking their access for allegedly publishing obscene and vulgar content.
- The I&B Ministry issued multiple warnings to the platforms before taking this action.
- The crackdown resulted in blocking 19 websites, 10 apps (7 on Google Play Store and 3 on Apple App Store) and 57 social media accounts associated with the OTT platforms.
- The I&B Ministry claims the blocked content violated the IT Act, the Indian Penal Code, and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act.
- The OTT platforms that have been blocked are Dreams Films, Voovi, Yessma, Uncut Adda, Tri Flicks, X Prime, Neon X VIP, Besharams, Hunters, Rabbit, Xtramood, Nuefliks, MoodX, Mojflix, Hot Shots VIP, Fugi, Chikooflix, and Prime Play.
