Electoral Bond Data Released on EC Website
Electoral Bond Data Released on EC Website Following Supreme Court Directive
In a landmark move towards transparency in political financing, the Election Commission of India has disclosed the details of electoral bonds received from the State Bank of India. The data, spanning from April 12, 2019, onwards, sheds light on purchases ranging from ₹1,000 to ₹1 crore by both companies and individuals.
The disclosed information includes lists of companies purchasing electoral bonds, as well as political parties encashing them, with details on denominations and dates. However, there's currently no direct correlation between the donors and the recipient parties.
Notably, Future Gaming and Hotel Services PR emerges as the top contributor, with bonds worth a staggering ₹1,368 crore, followed closely by Megha Engineering And Infrastructures Limited at ₹966 crore.
The release of this data comes following a stern directive from the Supreme Court, emphasizing the importance of transparency in political funding. While this move marks a significant step forward, questions remain regarding the accountability and traceability of donations to specific political entities.
