New Delhi | The Election Commission (EC) today announced the schedule for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, along with the Assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, and Odisha. Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar outlined the challenges facing the electoral process and highlighted measures to address them.

Efforts to Combat Challenges:
- Muscle: Strict instructions have been issued to district magistrates and superintendents of police to ensure a level playing field. Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) will be deployed adequately, supported by integrated control rooms and surveillance measures like check posts and drones.
- Money: The EC has collaborated with enforcement agencies to curb the flow of illicit money. Measures such as the Election Seizure Management System (ESMS) portal and increased coordination have resulted in a significant rise in seizures.
- Misinformation: In the digital age, tackling misinformation is complex. The EC has implemented proactive measures to debunk fake news and will take strict action against originators of misinformation.
- Model Code of Conduct Violations: Political parties have been advised to refrain from personal attacks and foul language. The EC emphasizes maintaining civility and decorum in campaigning.

- Over 97 crore registered voters and 10.5 lakh polling stations are prepared for the elections.
- Approximately 1.2 crore first-time voters will participate, with over 82 lakh voters aged over 80, including more than 2 lakh centenarians.
